Annual Empty Bowls Event

On Thursday, February 11th, Religious Community Services (RCS) and the Craven Arts Council (CAC) are joining forces with dozens of local businesses to host the First Annual Empty Bowls event at Temple Baptist Church in New Bern. The event will generate needed funds for both groups to carry out their work.

There is much more information in the attached brochure but the concept is simple. Supporters purchase a ticket to the Empty Bowls event for $20. At the event they will be served their choice of 2 bowls of soup prepared by participating area restaurants, along with bread and drink. During their time at the event they will be able to pick out a pottery bowl, handmade by a local potter to take home. While they are having lunch, they will be treated to entertainment from local singing groups and have the opportunity to network with others in the community. It will be a fun, festive event and make a huge difference to those in need.

So mark your calendar and make plans to have lunch at Temple Baptist Church in New Bern at the Empty Bowls event. We will be serving from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.. You can buy your tickets in advance at Craven Arts Council downtown or at the door.

Please help us spread the word by sending this email to everyone you know.
Thank you for your support in our fight against hunger in Craven, Jones and Pamlico Counties.

Colin Cowie

Colin Cowie on The Today Show
Friday, February 5th

Valentine’s Day is not just for lovers….anymore! I have some fun ideas to go from two, to a family of twenty-two, and everything in between. So don’t be locked into a dinner for just you and your significant other. If friends are part of the picture and you don’t want to do it alone, bring out a tray of delicious champagne cocktails and inject a shot of unexpected color into what might have been an all red scene. If family is hanging about (it does land on Sunday), why not invite them all for some heart shaped fun; a pancake buffet with all the toppings; from chocolate chips to strawberries and whipped cream, almonds and honey. It doesn’t get any better. And, if it’s just you and your lover, inject some romance in the stars and make it a sizzling one too with a classic romance movie and dinner of lobster, prawns and oysters; all aphrodisiacs sure to set the mood.
